He got married to Emily Dorman on the 9th of April in 1904. Shackleton had two son's and one daughter, Raymond, Edward and Cecily. The 1921 trip on the quest was his final journey. Shackleton's fourth expedition aimed to sail the Antarctic continent. Shortly after the expedition started, on January 5th 1922, Shackleton died of a heart attack off South Georgia. A few months later on their journey home, the crew of the Quest erected a cross at King Edward Point.
